Li Guo, Ph.D.

Cellular Engineering and Scientific Community Manager

Dr. Li Guo has worked as Scientific Community Manager for Open Therapeutics since 2016.  She joined Open Therapeutics in January 2014 as Director of Cellular Engineering. She worked with a multi-disciplinary team on the development and acquisition of corporate intellectual properties and technologies. Prior to her Open Therapeutics role, Dr. Li Guo conducted several neuro-oncology research projects at Cincinnati Children’s hospital Medical Center. She also has broad experiences in cancer, neuroscience, and cell biology. She received her Ph.D. from the Institute of Neuroscience, the Chinese Academy of Science in 2006 and her Bachelor of Science from Xiamen University in 2001. Dr. Guo is a responsible, energetic and entrepreneurial-minded professional with a blend of scientific research and business execution experiences.  She is passionate about biotechnology, innovation and business development.

We Believe

Open Therapeutics crowdsources orphan and dormant therapeutic intellectual properties (IP) to scientists around the world. The goal is advancing research that ordinarily has not generated a public value or been recognized. This approach particularly helps underserved scientists to collaborate with their more financially capable colleagues.

How open science helps researchers succeed:

Open access, open data, open source, and other open scholarship practices are growing in popularity and necessity. However, widespread adoption of these practices has not yet been achieved. One reason is that researchers are uncertain about how sharing their work will affect their careers.

The review of the literature demonstrates that open science is associated with increases in citations, media attention, potential collaborators, job opportunities, and funding opportunities. These findings are evidence that open science practices bring significant benefits to researchers relative to more traditional closed practices.
